All American Cryonics Providers
There are approximately 720 people cryopreserved worldwide, with around 5,000 to 6,000 signed members globally and 30 to 40 new cryopreservations annually. This article covers every organization that serves American customers.
Most people choose between Alcor and the Cryonics Institute, the two oldest and largest providers. Tomorrow Biostasis is a strong option for those who want European storage or travel frequently. Several smaller organizations serve niche needs.

Major Providers
Alcor Life Extension Foundation
Founded in 1972 in Scottsdale, Arizona. Over 250 patients preserved, approximately 1,500 members. Offers both whole-body ($220,000) and neuro-only ($80,000) preservation with standby included. Maintains a Patient Care Trust with approximately $18 million. The most established option with the longest track record.
Cryonics Institute
Founded in 1976 by Robert Ettinger in Clinton Township, Michigan. 276 patients preserved, approximately 2,000 members. Whole-body preservation costs $28,000 to $45,000 depending on membership status. Standby is not included and must be arranged separately. The most affordable major option.
As of April 2025, CI offers a Field Cryoprotection program with Suspended Animation for $18,000, allowing vitrification at the patient's location.
Tomorrow Biostasis
Founded in 2019 in Berlin, Germany with storage in Switzerland. 20 patients preserved, over 800 members. Began serving American customers in July 2024 with operations in New York, California, and Florida. Whole-body costs €200,000 (~$220,000), neuro costs €75,000 (~$82,000), with standby included. Monthly dues of €50.

Cost Comparison
| Provider | Whole Body | Neuro | Standby |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alcor | $220,000 | $80,000 | Included |
| Cryonics Institute | $28,000 to $45,000 | Not offered | $60,000+ extra |
| Tomorrow Biostasis | €200,000 (~$220,000) | €75,000 (~$82,000) | Included |

When comparing CI to Alcor or Tomorrow, remember that CI's price does not include standby. Adding Suspended Animation brings CI's total to approximately $88,000 to $128,000, still significantly cheaper but not as dramatic as the base price suggests.
Smaller Organizations
Cryonics America
Formerly Osiris, rebranded in 2021. Based in Miami, Florida. They are the only Florida-based facility. Whole-body preservation costs $39,990 as a flat fee with no annual dues. 6 patients preserved. Accepts life insurance, out-of-pocket payment, or real estate liens. Standby is not included.
Sparks Brain Preservation
Formerly Oregon Cryonics / Oregon Brain Preservation. Based in Salem, Oregon. This organization uses aldehyde fixation rather than traditional cryonics, which is a fundamentally different approach. They have preserved 20 brains and have 41 members. Cost is $60,000 ($48,000 for long-term members). They recently built a new $7 million, 20,000 sq ft facility.
Oregon's Death with Dignity Act allows medical aid in dying at their facility, which provides predictable timing for preservation.
Free preservation is available for Oregon residents who donate tissue for research.
American Cryonics Society
Founded in 1969, making it the oldest existing cryonics organization. ACS functions as a general contractor rather than a direct provider. They arrange storage through CI and standby through Suspended Animation.
Standby Services
For organizations that do not include standby, two third-party providers serve American customers:
Suspended Animation Inc.
Based in Lake Forest, California. Offers several pricing structures:
- Insured Plan: $48,000
- Prepaid Flat-Rate: $45,500 (refundable deposit)
- Prepaid Incremental: $27,500 (single deployment, 72 hours)
- Completion Fee: $30,000
- Field Cryoprotection add-on: $18,000
International Cryomedicine Experts (ICE)
Founded by Aaron Drake, former Alcor Medical Response Director. Covers California, Texas, Florida, North Carolina, Alaska, and Hawaii. Consulting starts at $15,000, with complex international cases at $100,000+. Their team has collective experience of over 150 cryopreservations.
Recommendations
For most people, the choice comes down to Alcor or CI. Alcor is the premium option with everything included. CI is the budget option that requires more coordination but saves substantially on cost.
If you live in or travel to Europe frequently, Tomorrow Biostasis provides consistent coverage across continents.
The smaller organizations serve specific niches. Cryonics America offers the lowest flat-rate pricing. Sparks Brain Preservation uses a different technology that may appeal to those skeptical of traditional vitrification. ACS provides a contractor model for those who want to coordinate their own arrangements.
About 90% of cryonics members fund their arrangements through life insurance. See our insurance guide for details.
